![]() ![]() The battery is scary, but they don’t just “fail” very often. It’s FAR more likely you’ll have a problem with something like any other car than you will with the battery. It's a valid concern to, because even if the full battery pack isn't likely to go bad, sometimes a single cell might go bad, but if you try to go to a dealership, they might tell you $20k for a new pack or go F yourself"/you can't just pay a few hundred bucks for a single cell and pop it in yourself (well, for most people anyways) ![]() People worry about the batteries because it's possibly the most expensive part of the car. I came from a prius, and those things have very reliable transmissions (traded mine at 180k miles for the Volt) so in my mind, a Volt with half the mileage would be even more reliable, but I was in for an unpleasant surprise. People not familiar with them or the issues (like me before I had one) will think the transmission must be reliable because it doesn't even change gears or anything and will be mechanically simpler than most. Well that's because most people (myself included) don't realize it's a thing that can fail like that. But just from this small group of fans it should be obvious there’s a market. I’m sure r/Volt isn’t the most unbiased forum to gather an all encompassing opinion off of. But they definitely disappointed me when they killed the Volt the year it was announced as an award winning Hybrid. But I came around to them and now I’d probably say they have made a huge fan out of me. When it released in 2013 I hated the look. I’ve never been a brand loyalist, I’ve owned Fords, GMs, Hyundais and a few others. I’d even consider selling/trading in my ‘14 for one if you made it. Announce a ‘24-‘25 Volt with modern amenities and I’m in. I am hoping my 2014 Premium lasts a while, hell if I could get a battery swap, I’d almost consider it if the price was right.Ĭhevy. And the price vs quality is disappointing. I don’t really care what Elon does, the cars are what I’m judging. Their inability to improve fit and finish even after a decade in business is disappointing in the least. They proved to the world that Electric was truly viable and I will always appreciate that. Should I keep driving it for another few years then sell it? or sell it now and switch to something else? Anyone in SF bay area interested in buying a 2013 Volt? :)Įxactly. I tested drove a M3 recently, and I really didn't feel it drives any better than the Volt for me. But I am also slightly worried about the potential sudden issue after a few years, and maybe it's better I sell it now while the car prices are reasonable? kbb says private party is upwards of 12k.īut I really like the car and how it drives. The car is built like a tank, and really there are no issues. If I keep driving it, I feel I should be able to get at least another 3-5y out of it. (CA weather is mild which is probably good for battery?). car is still on original 12V battery, no issues/symptons. my next task is to do the transmission fluid change (got the Dexron VI but haven't gotten around to it yet). If I keep driving the car, will continue at 1x every 6m. Have been doing the dilution method on battery coolant about 3x now for the last few months. just recently flushed/changed the brake fluids myself. MyGreenVolt app says battery delta is within 15mv or something (is 200 the limit?) car is never left uncharged for too long, never left in a discharged state at all for more than a day. engine has been babied: oil change every ~ 1-1.5y (I do it myself, full synthetic 5w-30 with ACD filter, since I don't drive much gas, default would've been 2y). I drive like a soccer mom, hyper-mileing usually. always garaged, drive mostly on electric, no accidents, just local commute/kids school mostly, all within 40 miles daily range. When I say well taken care of, this is what I meant: My gut feeling is the battery probably still has plenty of life left, but no way for me to know for sure. I am the original owner, and I've kept it really well, so also a bit hesitant to sell it. I wish the car could just operate in like a Prius hybrid mode if the battery goes, or a pure gas car, but apparently it won't. My Volt is turning 10 soon, and I am getting a little nervous about the possibility of the battery dying rendering the car totally unusable. ![]()
